Family Mediation Pilot in the News

Waterford News & Star published an article about our Waterford and Kilkenny Family Mediation pilots. Dr. Roisin O’Shea presented on the pilot at the AFCC International Conference on Family Law in New Orleans last May. The pilot is being administered by Dr. O’Shea and Laura La’Brooy of ARC, with research oversight being provided by Dr. Sinead Conneely of WIT and Shane Dempsey of ARC Mediation.

The pilots have developed a new and innovative mediation process, taking into account the best international research on family mediation. Issues considered were the number of issues agreed upon, the time to agree issues, the cost-effectiveness of mediation and positive parenting outcomes evidenced by greater shared parenting and cooperation between the parents. The pilot outcomes were presented and discussed by inter-disciplinary family justice researchers and practitioners at the conference with international interest in adapting the ARC model to mediations in Canada and the US. We have previously assisted mediation projects in Vancouver, Canada with the setting of means-tested rates.
