ARC offer a 32 Hour “Separating Couples” course for aspiring family mediators. The course is accredited by the Mediators Institute of Ireland (MII) and enables a previously-accredited mediator to be listed as a “Family Mediator” on the MII directory. The most common way for someone to be accredited as a mediator is to complete an MII-accreditation “60 Hour” training course. See the training section of the MII website for more information.
However, MII-accreditation isn’t the main reason to complete our 32-Hour course.
The ARC training team uses 3 experienced mediators who have competed well over 450 family mediations between them. 2 of the trainers are experts in family law, having published nationally and internationally about Irish Family Law, International Family Law outcomes in the Irish courts and the efficacy of Family Mediation.
“Between the three of you there is a huge wealth of knowledge and experience and I am very grateful to have learnt so much over the 4 days” – Deirdre, Cavan
Our trainers have mentored other mediators that have joined ARC’s busy practice. We understand how best to develop the talent and skills of aspiring mediators.
“I felt that the course was excellently run and I benefited greatly from attending” – Gordon, Dublin
The course content is informed both by academic rigour and by real world experiences of hundreds of successfully-concluded family mediations.
Learning is reinforced by challenging and realistic role-plays with expert critique.
“The role-plays really bring the theory to life…” – Eileen, Dublin
The course is highly participative with quizzes, workshops, role-plays and brain storming sessions used to develop skills in dealing with challenging negotiating positions.
The exercises and role-plays are grounded in real-world cases that develop the attendees’ abilities to take clients through a structured family mediation process.
Co-mediation techniques are taught by mediators who use these skills every day in professional practice.
A significant amount of training material is provided in electronic format including slides, guidelines, relevant statutes, templates and other documents that contribute to the attendee’s “Family Mediation Toolbox”.
ARC provides “after care” for attendees, answering queries re the material and providing assistance where we can in their professional development as family mediators.
The Dublin course is delivered in the high quality conference facilities of the Clayton Liffey Valley hotel with teas, coffees, lunch and complimentary parking.
The most common feedback from attendees is they refer to courseware and remember the discussions for months after the course, finding new information and relevance of the material to their practice as a family mediator.
